Welcome to the Party!

Thanks so much to Vicki for hosting this wonderful Grow Your Blog Party!

And thank YOU for visiting!

I'm fairly new to blogging, so am still learning how everything works.  But I am enjoying meeting new folks and learning about their interests and hobbies.

So about me...

Basically, I am a basket maker, knitter, photographer with a travel habit.

I love designing and creating unique baskets and jewelry out of long leaf pine needles. Several of my baskets have won ribbons at the Florida State Fair.

I just completed my latest entry.  I am hoping it will win a ribbon, but regardless, I have a great spot for it on my coffee table.

As you can imagine, baskets take a remarkably long time to make, and most I make to keep or as gifts. But there are a few that I place in my Etsy shop, Pine Designs.

I went to China a few years ago on a mission trip and that inspired me to turn my basket making into a ministry.  When I do sell something the money is used to help support missionaries in China.  I hope you will visit the shop sometime and take a look.

~

My other favorite pasttime is knitting (and crochet) and, like many of my fellow knitters, I always have a few projects in process.  I am blessed to have three beautiful grandchildren and enjoy spoiling them with a few handmade items.

I belong to a knitting group and we make warm items such as hats, headbands, scarves, etc. to donate each year.  It's fun to share ideas and get new ones!  I try to make each piece a little bit different so no two are exactly alike.

This headband is one of my creations.

And I made it to give to one of you!

It looks white but is actually a cream color.  I enjoy making these since they're perfect for the little nip in the air we get in north Florida.  The flower is tied on and can be removed if preferred.

To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment on this post!

***The winner does not have to have a blog -- anyone can enter -- anyone can win - regardless of where you live.***

The winner will be drawn on February 1, 2013 and will be announced here!
~

I've been married for over 35 years and we enjoy traveling.  We are always looking for new places to explore. When we travel I enjoy sharing our adventures and photos to anyone interested or will sit still for a few minutes.  In fact, that's why I started this blog:-)

The following photos are from our 35 anniversary trip to Europe last year.  You can check out the entire trip in past posts.

Paris
London
Westminster Abbey
Germany
Venice

It was a wonderful adventure with memories that will last a lifetime.
Now where to go next....???

~

So that's it about me.  Hope you will leave a comment so I'll know who you are and can visit you too!

Until next time ~

  1. Terri, I am not joining in the grow your blog party, even though I should grow my blog and I love Vicki the host. I so enjoyed learning more about you, so great that you donate your earnings to charities in China. I visited Paris several years ago with my family, it was a trip of a lifetime.

You, my friend, share some amazing talent as well. Your basket arrived yesterday and I am thrilled with it! I can't wait to show it off. And your knitting is just precious.

Looks like we've been to many of the same places in our travels. I've got to figure out how to do the sidebar links so I can post more photos. I know there are friends out there who just can't wait to see more of my travel pics:-)

  25. Hello. I have also been married 35 years but we are saving the big trip to UK for our 40th anniversary. My only overseas missions trip was to the Philippines, my husband went to Zambia and my only child to Japan (twice). I have also been on 25 short term mission trips with in Australia, in fact, I was the founder of the ministry which, unfortunately, no longer exists.

    Grandchildren are amazing, aren't they?

I'll be back to read more of your adventures and to see more of your beautiful work.

  28. I first discovered pine needle baskets when my husband and I honeymooned in Charleston. We pulled over to the side of the road where a woman sat peacefully under a spanish moss covered tree, catching the odd breeze that came her way. Set before her was a simple table filled with pin needle baskets of various sizes and shapes. We bought one and I still have it after 38 years of marriage! YOur work is lovely and I admire your talent! So glad I met you through the blog party. And I would love to have you drop on by mine if you have a moment! Such fun!!

  31. Good gracious, weaving with longleaf needles! Did you learn from someone else? I'd love to try, but the local white pine needles are not very long...I think it might be frustrating. I'm going to look for your etsy shop.

    1. I did learn from a friend, but there's a wonderful DVD I can recommend if you are serious. But you make socks!!! I'd give anything to learn to make socks...or at least two that are the same...or at least finish the second one... you get the idea:-) Do you spin your own yarn? Now I am totally intrigued.

      Terri

      Delete
    2. I don't spin (yet) but am hoping at some point to get a 5-minute tutorial from someone with a drop-spindle so I can see if it comes naturally. Probably the same way I would approach weaving with pine needles! Do you knit, but not socks? If so my best advice is, knit a pair of toddler-size socks in DK-weight yarn on size US4 needles. So fast! So cute! (So addictive - LOL!)

If I win your giveaway, my mother will have a new headband. She wears those plastic things that just fit on the head and sometimes comes with a flower attached. For the Christmas party where she lives I was able to get her a new flower for her headband plus some fun bracelets.
