Sarah's Birthday Dress

Finally finished!!!

What started out as a
potential Christmas gift
got pushed back in the WIP pile
due to my holiday hat making frenzy.

But a fourth birthday was
quickly approaching

which meant I had better
get busy and finish this little dress.

Couldn't resist adding just a bit
of fair isle.

My knitting pattern reading skills are limited
so much of what you see from
the arms up was improvised.

I am pretty happy
and hopefully the little princess will
love it too!

And a special thank you to my friend
Vicki at 2 Bags Full
for sharing the source of this pattern.

Until next time~

In Love With Fair Isle

I am in love!

Just before the holidays I (unwisely) decided to
sign up for a class to learn
Fair Isle knitting.

Little did I realize how addictive this new skill would become.

Our project was a Baa-ble Hat
(Thanks Quinn :-)

See the cute little sheep!

My oldest grandchild liked it but asked if
I could make one with hearts.

Well....I don't know...I told her.  But I'll try.
Not having done this before and not knowing I could
go to Pintrest or Ravelry for charts,
I downloaded some graph paper
and came up with a design...

that worked!!!

After the first success I decided each of my
precious grandchildren
needed one for Christmas.
But Jack needed different colors...and he needed sheep.

Think I drove everyone crazy knitting in every spare moment.

The outcome was worth it!

Then my beautiful daughter-in-law asked if
she could have one.

I was thrilled to oblige.

Of course this was the warmest Christmas on record
so hats didn't get worn...
...until now - 39 degrees this morning :-)

Until next time ~

Sarah's Angel Wing Pinafore

Sometimes a yarn only needs a little help deciding what it wants to become.

I had found this yarn at a small shop when traveling last year
and liked the colors.
(Think I've seen it locally since then:-)
But when I got it home, I didn't know
what to make with it,
so in the stash it went.

My three year old granddaughter, Sarah,
got into my stash one day and
plucked this yarn out of the pile
and asked me to make something for her.
Pink is her FAVORITE color!

Well how could I refuse!

This Angel Wing Pinafore pattern seemed
the perfect choice.

Crocheted in one piece from top down,
in a simple, but lovely
shell pattern.

The pattern is for an infant
but easily convertible for larger sizes.
Wish I could make the conversions
that easily when knitting!

Think I will give it to her for Christmas!

Until next time~
Terri

Flowered Scarf Donation

It's finally fall in north Florida...
time for pants, long sleeves, and scarves
to come out of hiding.

It's also time for new cool weather items
to be added to our missions sale table.

This year, thanks to my friend
Vicki at 2 Bags Full
I was inspired to add some
decorative touches to my scarf donation.

Digging through my stash
I discovered some fun, feathery yarn
which worked perfectly as a vine.

The simple flowers were crocheted with Caron Simply soft yarn

and the scarf was made of  boucle.

I hope it will give someone a smile,
and provide warmth to both the body and spirit.

A special thank you to Vicki and to
each of you who share your wonderful creations,
inspiring others to expand our visions and talents.

Until Next Time ~
Terri

Yarn Shopping in Syros

As all fellow knitters know...
no matter where we travel
we can never pass by a yarn shop.

Walking down the streets of Syros, one of the many
beautiful islands in Greece,
I stumbled upon a yarn shop!

My heart fluttered and hands began to sweat.
I called to my husband and traveling companions
and told them to go ahead.
This could take a while.

The shop owner spoke not a word of English
and my Greek was limited to
good day and thank you.

Wanting a yarn made in Greece was my priority.
After much trial and error and laughing
(the shop owner had a good sense of humor)
she got my message and found some lovely cotton yarn
Made In Greece!

I'm not sure what I will make with this
soft as silk cotton yarn
in variegated shades of blues, greens, and pinks.
All ideas are welcome!

Until Next Time ~

Bling Sweaters

A dear friend's daughter is expecting their first child.
It's a girl!!

I wanted to make a little something that had some bling to it and his little sweater and hair bow seemed like the perfect fit.

I used the softest yarns.

The bow still needs to be finished, but I have time.  The shower is next month.

After finishing the baby sweater I decided to make something for myself.

A friend shared this Chevron Lace Cardigan pattern.

Using Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn in multi-color, I got a bit of bling without much effort.

I really enjoyed this pattern.  Easy to follow but also enough change to
keep my interest.

I'll be travelling later this summer and am looking for a project that travels well.  Since we will be limited to 44 pounds of luggage it has to be small, but not fingerweight (too hard to see :-)
Any ideas?

Now back to work with some pine needles!

Until next time ~

Crochet Projects

My nephew and his wife are expecting their first child!  It's a boy!

A baby boy deserves a cuddly, soft blanket.

It had to be blue, and the yarn as soft as a cloud.

A crocheted shell stitch of my own design.  A simple creation starting with a center square
and then working around the edges.

Baby is due in April and for once I'm ahead of schedule.

Another project just completed is a shawl for a friend.

She's been fighting cancer and we will be visiting her next month.

A design creation using a simple ripple pattern.

So soft and comforting.

A homemade gift always shows you really care.

There are a few more projects underway and those will be shared soon, so come back.

Until next time~

Minnie Mania

Hello Dear Friends!

Thank you for stopping by even when I was not answering.

As mentioned in my last post my little granddaughter had some serious eye problems.  Thank God the worst seems to be over.  And I thank you for your prayers:-)

So now thoughts are on Christmas and I've been busy making a few fun things.

One of my little ones is obsessed with Minnie Mouse.  She LOVES everything Minnie and was even dressed as Minnie for Halloween.

I know....too cute!

So I found this little Minnie hat pattern on a fellow blog and made one for her for a Christmas gift.

I think she will like it.

And for the five year old....

a Minnie bow on a headband ear warmer!

These were such fun to make and will hopefully be a hit for Christmas.

Also, we did travel to Alaska and I promise I will post about that trip soon!!!
So much to do and so little time...  Does anyone else have this issue?

Until next time and hopefully not so long,

Sarah's New Tunic

Every now and then I get an urge to crochet.

The knitting needles get set aside with all my wip's and out comes the crochet hooks and patterns.

A visit to the stash then follows to see what yarn will go with what project.  Or will a trip to the local yarn shop be necessary?

Well this time I decided to modify an easy pattern and make my little cutie a tunic top.

This is the result.

Sometimes she can be quite a pickle.

But this time she was on board.

I think she actually liked it!

Happy Summer!

                                         Until next time....

The Spring Scarf Giveaway!

One Sunday morning I was stopped in my tracks when I saw a friend wearing the most delightful scarf! It was lightweight and contained shades of spring blossoms, so soft that it looked like it would melt in my fingers if I touched it. The delicate silkiness was exquisite! I exclaimed, "Where did you get this"!  And of course her response was unsatisfactory... she had bought it at a local craft show, but didn't know who made it.  Ugh!

At this point I did what I think many of you would do... asked to see it up close.  This works best when the person is a good friend and knows your (or my) quirkiness and was willing to undress so I could examine the scarf in more detail. Well now there was no doubt that I would have to make "The Scarf".

Being a collector of beautiful yarns and ribbons, I began sorting through the softest, prettiest, and most unique materials I could find.  A trip to my favorite yarn shop soon followed and I came away with a riot of additional colorful yarns and ribbons.

These are a few of the results...

Designer Fringe Spring Scarf with Sari ~ Adele ~ Multicolor

Designer Fringe Spring Scarf with Sari ~ Bonnie ~ Multicolor

The scarves are so lightweight--almost like wearing a necklace. Each is full of the colors of everything in bloom. And so very, very soft and velvety!  Made to be warn with many outfits and combinations to take on a different look each time when placed with different colors. I plan to use mine when the chilly air conditioning is blowing down my neck this summer!

My secret ingredient!

To be a bit different though, in addition to lightweight, multi-colored, and multi-textured yarns and ribbons, in several pieces I've also included a secret ingredient.... a few strands of recycled sari.

The sari silk is hand cut by women in India who recycle their beautiful saris (the traditional clothing of Indian women) by cutting them into strips.  My purchase of their product gives them an opportunity to enhance their lives.

Like any dedicated crafter, when you have this much yarn and ribbon and sari, you can't make just one!  So, what to do with many Spring Scarves......

Have a Giveaway!

This has been a long, cold winter for many of my friends in the north so I thought I would give a Springtime Scarf away to celebrate the arrival and beauty of spring!
